Now you can share documents using WhatsApp Web
WhatsApp has added document sharing support to WhatsApp Web. Although the company is yet to make an official announcement of the feature, users on WhatsApp Web can now share files like Word documents using a web browser. Until now only two formats -- images and videos -- were supported through the WhatsApp.
The WhatsApp Web, which is an extension of the WhatsApp on phone, was launched in January last year. It allows users to access WhatsApp in a browser although, to do so they need a working WhatsApp account and data connection in their phone. A few days ago, the company also announced a native WhatsApp app for Windows and Mac computers. Although this too requires a working WhatsApp account on a phone.
WhatsApp Web earlier allowed users to share photos and videos already saved on a computer through the web service. It also allowed users to click or record images or videos through a web browser then share it. Now, the attachment option also includes document sharing feature alongside sharing photos and videos.
WhatsApp has been adding features to its various services to provide more usability to its users. The document sharing feature for mobile app was launched in March this year. The document sharing feature is supported on Android as well as iOS platform. But users have reported that one cannot send a document from WhatsApp Web until the receiver has also updated the app to the same or newer Android app version.
Also rumours are that WhatsApp has been planning to add some more features to its mobile app. These features may include video calls, voicemail, zip and vcf sharing support and group invites via NFC tags.
To use WhatsApp Web app, the user needs to scan a QR code using the WhatsApp on the smartphone.
